How to Clean Frameless Shower Glass (and Keep It Crystal Clear)
The right way to clean frameless shower glass — daily habits, weekly routines, and the products that work.
The Daily Habit That Makes Everything Easier
After every shower, use a squeegee to pull water off the glass. This one step prevents 80% of hard water spots before they form. Keep a squeegee hanging inside the shower so it's always accessible.
Weekly Cleaning Routine
Once a week, spray the glass with white vinegar (undiluted) and let it sit for 5–10 minutes. Wipe down with a microfiber cloth, then rinse with warm water and squeegee dry. Vinegar dissolves mineral deposits and is safe for all glass types, including low-iron and frosted glass.
For Stubborn Hard Water Buildup
If you have significant calcium deposits, a paste of baking soda and dish soap works well. Apply it to the glass, scrub gently with a non-scratch pad, and rinse thoroughly. For severe buildup, CLR or Bar Keepers Friend is effective — always test in a small area first.
What to Avoid
Abrasive scrubbers scratch glass permanently. Ammonia-based cleaners damage seals and coatings. Never use razor blades on coated glass — only on uncoated clear glass.
Glass Coatings That Reduce Maintenance
Many of our customers opt for a protective glass coating (like EnduroShield or Rain-X) applied at installation. These hydrophobic coatings cause water to bead up and roll off, dramatically reducing water spot formation. They typically last 3–5 years with proper care.
Hardware Care
Wipe down hinges, handles, and towel bars weekly with a damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals near hardware — they can tarnish chrome and degrade matte black finishes over time. A thin application of car wax on chrome hardware once a year keeps it looking new.
